What WINNING a GONG meansadmin / Latest News / 1 comment
The Titanic GO Awards were established to allow the public to recognise and vote for their favourite hangouts, watering spots and retailers as well as their favourite sports stars and media personalities and it is hoped that the people of Northern Ireland will make their voices heard and take this opportunity to acknowledge those who they feel deserve recognition.
The Titanic GO Awards are all about celebrating the best of Northern Ireland – and with 2012 being a very special year for the province – we at GO want to enhance this and show everyone all that is good about NI through The Titanic GO Awards.
This year the awards are open to the whole country and will showcase everything that is great about Northern Ireland. The Titanic GO Awards are about recognising and rewarding people and businesses in Northern Ireland and helping to raise standards in all the sectors that we are promoting. With a record 25,000 votes cast in 2010, we are hoping to exceed this number with voting extended until 17th February 2012.
Not only do the awards recognise entrepreneurial spirit, they also help to raise standards and awareness of you or your business and since 2007 they have a proven track record of being the most prestigious lifestyle and entertainment awards in Northern Ireland. Therefore winning a GONG should give you and your business a real sense of achievement and pride!
What past GONG’s winners have said about what winning means to them and their business:
“In 2010, open just five months, 21 Social won Club of the Year and The Golden Gong at The GO Awards, for us this was a great achievement in such a short period of time, and also because we believe GO Magazine to be the bigger, better and certainly more progressive magazine than that of it’s rivals. Winning these two awards at Northern Ireland’s leading lifestyle and entertainment awards was a great feeling. 21 Social’s staff and management worked so hard and really deserved it, so I was incredibly happy for all the team. It meant even more when you see the competition you are up against, no doubt Belfast has some of the best bars in the UK so to come out with two awards within five months of opening was amazing. Thanks to all those who voted for us in 2010 and I hope you all vote again in 2012,” Colin Brown, general manager, 21 Social.
“In 2008, when Victoria Square first opened, we won the overall Golden Gong at the GO Awards and subsequently, in 2009, we were voted Tourism Attraction of the Year. Winning these two Awards at Northern Ireland’s leading lifestyle and entertainment awards instilled a great sense of pride in the whole team at Victoria Square. As the winners of The Gongs are decided entirely by public vote, we felt a great sense of achievement and that Victoria Square has won the hearts of the people of Northern Ireland,” Hugh Black, centre manager, Victoria Square.
“The GO Awards is a fantastic event which showcases groups and individuals who excel in their respective industries. Winning the Newcomer of the Year GONG in 2010 was an incredible achievement for the team of people behind the development of Horatio Todd’s as well as all the staff and management who worked so hard to make it a success. This award has set a standard for us to build on and that we strive to continuously improve in order to better our business,” Morgan Watson, general manager, Horatio Todd’s.
As always, the winner from each of the categories will be put forward to be awarded the Golden GONG, also voted for by the public, so whether it’s a favourite pub, club, restaurant, hotel, festival/event, fashion store, live music venue, café, newcomer, sports star, media personality, hair salon, style bar or tourist attraction, people are encouraged to get voting NOW!
The highly anticipated winners will be announced at a star-studded evening, guaranteed to be full of excitement and surprises with an A-list celebrity crowd on Friday 27th April 2012 at Titanic Belfast.
Voting closes Friday17th February 2012.
